Powermat - Managing events

The challenge
Powermat  tasked Skywrite with launching its product portfolio to the UK market, positioning the products as cool, innovative and highly desirable. Powermat wanted to generate significant ongoing media buzz and make Powermat the default brand when it comes to wireless charging.

What we did
Skywrite’s strategy was to target early adopters and gadget fans before the product had even launched, turning them into Powermat advocates that would then spread the news about the Powermat launch themselves. Skywrite leaked stories, photography and videos to influential press and bloggers, conducting exclusive targeted demos with a select few to drive industry-wide buzz. With Powermat advocates in place, Skywrite turned its attention at launch to the prosumer audience, gift-givers and mums to introduce Powermat and the concept of wireless charging to the mainstream. The team hosted a ‘Charge your Life’ launch party, complete with oxygen bar, energy drinks and Powermat demo pods that was attended by 70 press from the national, broadcast and lifestyle media. Following launch, Skywrite undertook an aggressive reviews and gift-guide programme to ensure press from the FT to Good Housekeeping and The One Show all knew about and bought into Powermat.

What we got
Skywrite generated over 100 pieces of coverage in the UK for Powermat at launch across national, broadcast, lifestyle, consumer tech and online. Highlights included The Financial Times, Sunday Times Style, Ideal Home, Wired, BBC Click, Sky News and Time Out. In just three months Powermat sold over 750,000 units, taking ownership of the wireless charging market and leaving the competition trailing behind.

The Skywrite team is smart, creative and great to work with. They always take time to understand our needs and their understanding of the mobile space is a great asset. Since we have been working together Shazam's coverage has grown exponentially and I'm pleased with how the campaign is progressing.
